- Half cup urad dal
- Half cup curd
- Salt to taste
- Oil
- One spoon mustard seeds
- 3 to 4 green chilies
- 10-12 curry leaves
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- Coriander leaves
- Chopped coconut for garnish
Complete Preparation Method Step by Step
If you are making Gujarati dhokla at home, first you need to wash the rice thoroughly. Once the rice is washed, soak it well.
Wash and soak the urad dal in the same way as you did with the rice. Once the rice and urad dal are soaked, put both in a grinder and make a fine paste.
Now, once your batter is ground, transfer it to a large bowl and add salt to taste, along with the curd.
Now take a pan and add a few drops of oil and water to it. Now, take the batter you’ve prepared. Pour this batter onto the pan in a circular shape. Let it steam on the pan until it’s thoroughly cooked. This batter will cook in approximately 20 minutes.
Once it’s cooked, add green chilies on top. Before adding the green chilies, fry them in oil.
While frying the green chilies in oil, also fry curry leaves and asafoetida to make a tempering. Pour this tempering over the batter.
Once your dhokla has cooled down, cut it and serve it on a plate to enjoy.
Now, for garnishing the dhokla, sprinkle grated coconut and coriander leaves on top. You can also serve it with coconut chutney.
