EV: Delhi has moved to third place among states and union territories that are adopting electric vehicles the fastest. A new study shows that during the financial year 2024-25, around 11.6 percent of vehicles sold in Delhi were electric. This clearly indicated that the use of EVs in the capital is growing steadily. Both EV adoption and the total number of electric vehicles are increasing every year. The study was conducted by the council on energy, environment and water CEE. the report highlights delhi’s strong progress toward clean and sustainable mobility, showing that more people are choosing electric vehicles as better and eco-friendly option for daily travel.
Chandigarh and Goa
According to the new CEEW study, Chandigarh is leading the country in electric vehicle adoption. During the financial year 2024-25, about12.1 percent of vehicles sold there were electric. Goa secured the second position, with 11.9 percent EV sales. At the national level, electric vehicle sales stood 7.49 percent during the same period. This clearly shows that EV Adoption varies widely from state to state. The report also signifies that local incentives, subsidies and clean government policies play a major role in encouraging people to switch to electric vehicles and support faster growth of clean mobility across different regions.
During the Financial year 2024-25, people in Delhi bought around 83,423 electric vehicles. This strong number places the capita among the leading regions in EV adoption. Electric buses have played a major role in this shift toward clean transport. Nearly 40 percent of the Delhi’s buses are now electric, which is one of the highest shares in the country. Along with buses, electric two wheelers and three wheelers are also seeing good demand in the city. Electric cars are gradually gaining popularity as well. Overall, Delhi’s growing EV ecosystem reflects its strong push toward cleaner, greener, and more sustainable urban mobility.
For this CEEW study, Data was taken from the Ministry of Road transport and Highways vehicle portal. This portal tracks vehicle sales across all states and union territories in India. The study shows that EV adoption in Delhi is special in many ways. It is not only strong in terms of numbers but also reflects growing acceptance across different vehicle segments. From two-wheelers to buses and cars, electric vehicles are becoming more common in the capital. Delhi’s supportive EV policy, along with increasing public interest, is playing an important role in encouraging people to shift toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
