The Delhi Government is preparing to release pending subsidies worth nearly Rs.140 Crore for electric vehicles EVs. Officials confirmed that the payments will begin soon. transport minister pankaj singh announced on monday that the department will first verify applications that have been pending for the last two years before clearing them. To make the process smoother, the government is also developing an online portal for subsidy disbursement. this move comes after the delhi high court on september 3, directed the government to take immediate steps to clear the dues. the cour emphasized that customers who purchased EVs must receive their promised subsidy without further delay. the decision is expected to benefit the thousands of applicants waiting for financial support. By clearing these payments, the government aims to encourage more and more people to adoptthe eco-friendly vehicles and strengthen the delhi’s push towards the sustainable and greener transportation.

Electric Vehicle Policy 2020
According to the recent reports, bench of chief justice devendra kumar upadhyaya and justice tushar rai gedela observed that the delhi government cannot hide behind the fact that the 2020 electric vehicle policy does not specify a time frame for subsidy payments. the judges made it clear that the presence of a deadline does not absolve the government from its responsibility to release the funds. following the court’s order, officials confirmed that compliance has begun and the transport department has started identifying the eligible beneficiaries. a senior official revealed that the delay in releasing the subsidies was linked to administrative hurdles that arose last year after the arrest of former delhi cheif minister arvind kejriwal in connection with the excise policy case. with the verification and processing now underway, the government aims to ensure that pending subsidies reach rightful applicants.
This step is expected to restore public trust and support delhi’s green mobiility initiatives. Offiicals has explained that in the absence of Former chief minister arvind kejriwal, cabinet meetngs could not take place, which delayed the decisions on clearing teh pending ev subsidies. since the launch of the delhi electric vehicle policy in august 2020 under the aam aadmi party government, more than 2.19 lakh vehicles hae benefited from the tax exemptions. These include over 1.09 lakh two wheelers and 83,724 three-wheelers. by 2023, the government worth rs.177 crore to promote he adoption of eco-friendly transport. the pending payments once released are expected to further strengthen delhi’s green mobility mission.
