In a significant move to boost self-reliance in egg production and support rural employment, the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has introduced the Poultry Development Policy 2022. This forward-looking policy aims to encourage youth and farmers to take up poultry farming by offering various incentives the most notable being free electricity for five years and easy access to loans with interest subsidies.

Free Electricity and No Bills for Poultry Farms
One of the most attractive features of this scheme is the provision of free electricity for a full five-year period to eligible poultry farms. Entrepreneurs setting up poultry units under this policy will not receive any electricity bill during this period. The government intends to reduce the initial operational cost significantly, making poultry farming a more viable and profitable venture for small and medium-scale farmers.
This initiative is a part of the broader vision to make Uttar Pradesh self-sufficient in egg production, thereby reducing dependence on other states. Currently, a large portion of the state’s egg supply is sourced from outside. With this scheme, the state hopes to reverse this trend and generate employment in the process.

Loan Assistance with Interest Subsidy
To further ease the entry into poultry farming, the government is also offering loan assistance to eligible applicants. The interest on these loans will be partially borne by the state, with a subsidy of up to 7%. This financial support can be used to build poultry sheds, buy chicks, feed, and other necessary equipment.
These loans will be processed through nationalized and cooperative banks, and the applicants will receive support in documentation and approvals from government departments. This ensures that even first-time entrepreneurs, who may not be familiar with the banking system, can avail the benefits without hurdles.
Positive Response from Entrepreneurs
The scheme has already started attracting attention. In Meerut, three individuals have applied to set up poultry farms under this policy. These early adopters are expected to serve as examples for others in the community, showing how government support can help start a successful agri-business.
The local administration is also playing an active role in promoting the scheme and guiding interested candidates through the application process. Awareness campaigns and workshops are being organized to educate the youth about the economic benefits of poultry farming and the facilities offered under the new policy.
A Step Towards Rural Empowerment
The Poultry Development Policy 2022 is not just an economic initiative; it is also a rural empowerment tool. By creating employment opportunities in villages and reducing migration to cities, the scheme supports inclusive growth. It promotes Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) at the grassroots level and aligns with the central government’s vision of strengthening the agricultural and allied sectors.
With such strong incentives and growing interest among youth, Uttar Pradesh is poised to become a hub for poultry farming in the coming years.
