 Curfew from 6 AM Today

In Kerala’s Wayanad, authorities imposed a curfew in parts of Mananthavady Municipality on Sunday after a 47-year-old woman was fatally attacked by a tiger. Following the attack, the tiger has been declared a man-eater, and plans are being made to kill it. Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran held a high-level meeting at the District Collector’s office, after which the tiger was officially declared a man-eater. According to an official release, a 48-hour curfew was imposed in some areas starting at 6 AM on January 27.

 Woman Dies in Tiger Attack

The incident occurred on Friday morning at the ‘Priyadarshini Estate’ in Mananthavady, where Radha, a Scheduled Caste woman, was picking coffee when the tiger attacked her. Tragically, she lost her life in the attack. After her funeral, local residents gathered outside the forest officials’ base camp, demanding that the tiger be killed. Protests and slogans were also raised during the demonstration.

Protest by Local Residents

Forest officials clarified that the Chief Wildlife Warden, Pramod G. Krishnan, had issued orders on Friday to follow the guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the National Tiger Conservation Authority. The order stated that maximum efforts should be made to capture or tranquilize the tiger. However, if this was not possible, the tiger should be shot.
