The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has released a draft amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. This draft proposes issuing separate driving licenses for Indian and foreign citizens. These changes are currently in the form of a proposal; a notification has not yet been issued, but once the notification is issued, it will be fully implemented.
The color of DLs for Indians and foreigners will be different
The proposal that has been issued states that there will be separate driving licenses for Indian and foreign citizens. Therefore, it’s important to note that there will be differences in the format and color of the licenses.
Under the new provision, your driving license will be issued in the form of a laminated card or PVC card.
Additional information will be recorded on the license
In addition, according to the new rules, it has been reported that the Ministry has proposed providing detailed information on the driving license. This will include complete data on blood type, mobile number, and emergency contact information. This information is intended to be used in case of emergency. If this proposal is implemented, all these amendments will be issued on the license.
Age will also change
Not only do you need the necessary documents to obtain a driving license, but now the Ministry has also asked you to provide documents to verify your age, address, and identity.
You can show a passport, ration card, or any other government document. Additionally, you can also use an affidavit from an executive magistrate or notary, or a life insurance policy as proof of age and address.
Changes in the driving test
The online process for obtaining a driving license has also been changed. If you are applying for a driving license, it is mandatory for you to pass the online tutorial assessment to obtain a driving license. Now, a proposal has been made to increase the passing marks from 60% to 75%. If this rule is implemented, all these changes will be followed.
