New Delhi: People are protesting on the streets against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who is facing allegations of irregularities regarding the SIR. Demonstrations demanding his resignation are taking place in various cities across the country, including the capital, Delhi. On Thursday, political and social organisations held protests in cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Patna, and Mumbai, demanding that he step down.

A protest organised by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ took place on Thursday at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, along with YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and actor Prakash Raj, participated in the demonstration to demand the cancellation of the SIR and the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. During the event, Deepke led chants such as “Narendra Modi is a vote thief” and Cancel the SIR.

Deepke Levels Allegations Against PM Modi

Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of orchestrating vote theft. He claimed that PM Modi won the election by stealing votes and that living individuals were declared dead. He further stated that the BJP’s objective is to establish a “One Nation, One Party” system.

Deepke drew a parallel with Hitler. He also noted that the vote-share gap between the BJP and the Congress in 2024 was merely 2 per cent, despite the BJP having claimed it would cross the 400-seat mark a claim that left the party surprised by the actual election results. Deepke added that Nehru was the backbone of India and had granted voting rights even to those who were unaware of the process.

People Being Detained – Deepke

Abhijit Deepke stated that over 10,000 people across the country have been detained to prevent them from attending the protest scheduled for October 10 at Jantar Mantar. The Bharatiya Kisan Union has also extended its support to the protest; Rakesh Tikait has appealed to farmers and his supporters to reach Delhi.

Demand for an FIR against Gyanesh Kumar

The issue is not limited merely to Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation; there is also a demand for an FIR to be registered against him. In his address, actor Prakash Raj stated that the Commission has insulted the entire nation through the SIR process. Previously, election officials used to go door-to-door to add the names of new voters.

Now, voters are forced to plead with officials to prevent their names from being deleted. Prakash Raj further remarked that while people used to decide who would form the government, the government is now determining through SIR who gets to vote. The deletion of names is not just a matter of statistics; a distinct pattern is also evident.
