New Delhi: The pace of the monsoon has slowed down, and in many regions, the monsoon rains are nearing their end. Rainfall is subsiding across areas stretching from North India to the Northeast. It is expected that the monsoon will completely withdraw from most parts of the country as September comes to a close. Despite the onset of withdrawal, spells of rain continue in many regions.
Rainfall in several areas has led to a drop in temperatures. Seasonal snowfall has commenced in parts of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, which will trigger a further decline in temperatures. A drop in temperature was recorded following early morning rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across 18 states. Details regarding the weather forecast for these regions are provided below.
Warning of Heavy Rainfall in 18 States
According to the IMD, an alert has been issued for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and squalls across 18 states on September 20. The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab. Heavy downpours are also predicted for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Additionally, the IMD has issued alerts for heavy rain in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tripura, Assam, and Tamil Nadu. Wind speeds of 60 to 65 km/h are expected in several areas across these states.
Alert for Storms and Rain in Delhi
The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rain in Delhi on September 20. The Meteorological Department predicts strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to reach 34°C, while the minimum temperature may settle around 24°C.
Heavy Rain Expected in UP
According to the Meteorological Department, an alert for heavy rain has been issued for Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Agra, Mathura, and Kanpur. Alerts have also been issued for Aligarh, Hardoi, Raebareli, Mahamaya Nagar, Etawah, and Unnao. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain in Hamirpur, Sultanpur, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj. In Lucknow, the capital of UP, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C on September 20, while the minimum temperature may settle at 26°C.
Heavy Rainfall Likely in Bihar
The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Jehanabad, Gaya, East Champaran, West Champaran, Patna, Bhojpur, Gopalganj, Rohtas, and Buxar. According to the IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Munger, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, and Begusarai. In Patna, the maximum temperature is expected to be 34°C tomorrow (September 20), with the minimum temperature likely to reach 27°C.
Heavy Rain Forecast for Jharkhand
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Khunti, Chatra, Palamu, Dumka, Simdega, and Hazaribagh. The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Dhanbad, Giridih, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Latehar, and East Singhbhum. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Ranchi may reach 30°C, and the minimum temperature is likely to touch 23°C.
