New Delhi: Preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are in full swing. The BJP, having formed the government twice consecutively, is aiming for a hat-trick, while the SP is pulling out all the stops to regain the keys to power. Leaders from both the BJP and the SP are also fiercely targeting each other.

Shivpal Singh Yadav, SP National General Secretary and uncle of former CM Akhilesh Yadav, has made a major prediction. He stated that the SP and Congress would contest the 2027 Assembly elections together. He further added that a government with an absolute majority would be formed under the leadership of SP President Akhilesh Yadav.

Shivpal Yadav attacks the BJP.

SP National General Secretary Shivpal Yadav stated that the party has not yet revealed its election strategy; everyone will know everything when the right time comes. He targeted the BJP, accusing it of trying to weaken the opposition.

He remarked that attempts are being made today to weaken the opposition. Citing the case registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Uttarakhand, he alleged that the BJP wants to eliminate the opposition and is acting accordingly.

Exposing the reality behind BJP’s claims

Shivpal Singh Yadav criticised the BJP over videos allegedly created using artificial intelligence to target SP leaders. He noted that the BJP had initiated this trend, and the SP had merely responded to those actions. Shivpal also targeted the BJP over alleged corruption, stating that the condition of roads and the potholes on expressways have exposed the hollowness of their development claims.

Attack on Om Prakash Rajbhar

Senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav launched a scathing attack on Om Prakash Rajbhar. He stated that all of Rajbhar’s statements made against the BJP during his alliance with the SP are on record. He also met former SP MLA Rameshwar Singh Yadav, who is battling a lung ailment. He also expressed condolences over the demise of Haji Abdul Aziz, the father of SP leader Sharafat Hussain.

SP-Congress Alliance to Continue

It is worth noting that all political parties have their eyes fixed on the Uttar Pradesh elections. It is often said that the road to power at the Centre in Delhi runs through UP. There is a strong expectation that the SP will maintain its alliance with the Congress for the UP Assembly elections. Both parties had previously joined forces for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and delivered an impressive performance; they dealt a significant blow to the BJP by securing 43 out of the 80 seats.
