New Delhi: Preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections have begun in earnest. All political parties appear highly active in the state, with everyone pulling out all the stops. The Samajwadi Party (SP) seems to be posing a fresh challenge to the BJP, which has held power in the state for the last two terms.
The Samajwadi Party, having performed impressively in the Lok Sabha elections, is making an all-out effort. As the elections draw closer, a series of peculiar statements from leaders has also commenced. Amidst this, SP MLC Lal Bihari Yadav made a controversial remark during a meeting of teachers, a statement so contentious that even the Samajwadi Party has distanced itself from it.
SP MLC Makes Controversial Statement
During a teachers’ meeting, SP MLC Lal Bihari Yadav made a controversial statement, saying that if Akhilesh Yadav were to tie a bell around a dog’s neck, one would have to vote for that very dog. This remark sparked a political uproar. However, the party has stepped in to defend the statement.
The Samajwadi Party has termed it his personal opinion. SP leader Deepak Ranjan stated that in a democracy, the public keeps a record; one need not dwell on who said what, and these could simply be his personal views.
Congress, the SP’s ally in Uttar Pradesh, has also come to the defence; Congress leader Surendra Rajput has stepped up to support the SP MLC. He questioned why the BJP has an issue with the statement, noting that BJP leaders often clash among themselves, yet they take issue with leaders from other parties.
BJP Targets SP
The BJP has cornered the SP over the MLC’s “dog” remark. BJP leader Alok Awasthi remarked that soon, dogs wearing collars would be standing outside the SP office. He stated that there could be no greater insult to democracy than this, adding that the public would deliver a fitting reply in the elections.
SP Engaged in UP Election Preparations
It is worth noting that the Samajwadi Party has intensified its preparations for the UP Assembly elections, with everyone working hard towards this goal. Following the announcement by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, the party has launched its campaign at the booth level starting today. SP workers will conduct door-to-door outreach to engage with the public and work towards strengthening the organisation. The party’s focus will remain on booth management, voter outreach, and election strategy.
