New Delhi: A reign of terror caused by leopards is gripping the rural areas of Moradabad district. While leopards initially targeted only wild animals, they have now begun attacking humans. Within a span of 20 days, three people have lost their lives in leopard attacks across villages in the Thakurdwara tehsil. Thanks to the vigilance of the local police and the efforts of the Forest Department, operations to capture the leopards using cages are currently underway.
On Monday night, a leopard was captured in a cage in the Sahaspuri forest; however, on Tuesday morning, another leopard attacked a woman in Baliya village, located eight kilometres away. The attack was so ferocious that the woman sustained severe injuries and tragically lost her life. This incident has left the villagers in a state of panic. According to the locals, a large number of leopards are roaming the forests.
Leopard attacks woman gathering fodder
On Tuesday morning, a woman from Baliya village in Thakurdwara went to the fields to gather fodder. Little did she know that she would not return alive. A leopard suddenly attacked her while she was harvesting fodder, resulting in her death on the spot. The incident has created an atmosphere of fear throughout the village. This marks the second death caused by a leopard in Baliya village.
The deaths of two women from the same village due to leopard attacks have instilled deep fear among the residents. The situation is so dire that people are hesitant to even venture towards their fields. Villagers say that the constant threat of attacks keeps them in a state of perpetual fear.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the Forest Department promptly arrived at the scene with full force. A continuous combing operation is being conducted to locate the leopard. Furthermore, cages have been set up around the village to capture the animal. Modern technologies, including drones, are being utilised to monitor its movements.
Forest Department has captured 10 leopards.
According to a report by the Moradabad DFO, a leopard attacked the woman who had gone to gather fodder in Baliya village. Meanwhile, he urged villagers not to venture into the fields alone and to exercise extra caution. He stated that Forest Department teams are conducting continuous operations to capture the leopard.
So far, nine leopards and one cub have been captured during the rescue operations; a total of ten leopards have been rescued. However, a third death caused by a leopard attack in Valiaya village has once again heightened the villagers’ concerns.
