When Will Central Employees Get a 3 Per cent DA Hike? Know The Update

DA Hike Update

New Delhi: Central government employees and pensioners are currently keeping a close watch on the 8th Pay Commission, the implementation of which promises a significant hike in salaries. However, before the 8th Pay Commission comes into effect, central employees and pensioners are set to receive a Dearness Allowance (DA) hike. This time, central employees may receive a gift in the form of a 3% increase in DA.

This will result in substantial benefits for the employees. The DA hike will take place under the existing 7th Pay Commission framework. It is expected that the benefits of this hike will be realised in the first week of September. More than ten million (one crore) employees and pensioners stand to benefit from this. While there has been no official announcement regarding the specific date of the hike, media reports suggest it will happen in the first week of September.

What will the new DA percentage be?

Central employees’ DA could see an increase of up to 3%. Following this hike, the DA will reach 63%. Currently, central employees receive a DA of 60%. Based on the AICPI-IW data for June 2026, it is likely that the DA under the 7th Pay Commission will rise from 60% to 63%.

If this happens, monthly salaries will increase, and employees could also receive arrears effective from July 2026. The arrears will provide a significant financial boost. You can calculate the potential benefits for employees across different pay levels based on these figures.

What does the AICPI-IW report say?

DA for employees is calculated based on the 12-month (one-year) average of the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). Data released by the Labour Bureau for June 2026 records the AICPI-IW index at 151.9. Consequently, the 12-month average stands at 148.65. Based on this, the calculated DA figure comes to 63.76%. Governments never pay Dearness Allowance (DA) in decimal figures; instead, they implement it using rounded-off numbers. Consequently, a figure of 63.76% would be treated as 63%. The government may increase the DA by 3% this time.

Current DA Rate

The Central Government had previously raised the DA by 2% for the first half of 2026, bringing the rate to 60%. If a new hike of 3% is implemented, the employees’ DA will rise to 63%. The final decision rests on the Central Government’s approval, and the new rates will come into effect following an official announcement by the Ministry of Finance.
