New Delhi: Security agencies in India appear to be highly vigilant in thwarting any potential terror plots. Their objective is to expose the designs of terrorists. India’s premier investigative body, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), conducted raids at 10 locations in connection with a terror conspiracy case involving the international border. These NIA operations took place across the Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama, and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

These searches aim to gather documentary, digital, and physical evidence related to the conspiracy and to ascertain the roles of individuals linked to local support networks. Terrorist organisation leaders based in Pakistan often lure and incite youths via digital platforms to carry out terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Efforts are now underway to dismantle such networks.

What is the full story?

Attempts to hatch terror plots against India from across the border, specifically from Pakistan,n are a recurring issue in Jammu and Kashmir. Handlers backed by the Pakistani establishment and networks of local ‘Over Ground Workers’ (OGWs) execute these conspiracies. Consequently, the NIA re-registered a case originally filed as FIR No. 0024/2026 at the Zakura Police Station in Srinagar—as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU. The case invokes Section 23 of the UA(P) Act, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act.

According to reports, the case was initiated following the arrest of an OGW linked to the banned terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) at a security checkpoint late on the night of March 31, 2026. A hand grenade and live ammunition were seized from his possession.

During the subsequent investigation, Pakistani terrorists linked to this conspiracy were arrested. The identities and alleged roles of members within the local support network have also been established.

What did the agency say?

The NIA stated that raids conducted so far have revealed alleged links between Pakistan-based handlers and local associates. These local associates were being utilised for communication, logistics, the movement and sheltering of terrorists, conducting reconnaissance, and providing other forms of assistance.

The investigation is also examining transaction details, modes of communication, the movements of the accused, and the sources of weapons and explosives to map out the entire network and the scope of its activities. Meanwhile, the agency noted that additional evidence related to the case has been gathered and is currently being analysed.

Devices and other items recovered from these locations are being examined and cross-verified. The statement hinted at further legal action, including the potential arrest of some suspects. Reports had recently emerged regarding attempts to revive the Jamaat-e-Islami in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the NIA to conduct raids at multiple locations.
