With today being August 7th, there are several bank holidays remaining this month. Consequently, people are wondering whether banks will remain closed on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Will banks be closed on August 28th?

This year, the festival of Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on August 28, 2026. Banks will remain closed in several states, while in other places, they will operate normally. Therefore, it is advisable to check the holiday schedule for your specific city or state before visiting the bank.

Raksha Bandhan is a major festival in Hinduism, and banks observe a holiday on this day in many states. However, the decision regarding the holiday depends on local festivals and the state government’s holiday list; thus, the holiday is not uniform across all states.

For how many more days will banks remain closed in August?

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar, banks across the country will be closed on August 8th due to the second Saturday. August 9th will be a weekly holiday (Sunday). Banks in Manipur will remain closed on August 13th due to Patriot’s Day. On August 15th (Saturday), banks nationwide will be closed for Independence Day. Banks will remain closed on August 16th due to the weekly Sunday holiday. On August 19th (Wednesday), banks will be closed only in Tripura to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. Banks nationwide will be closed on August 22nd due to the fourth Saturday.

August 23rd will be a Sunday holiday across the country. On August 25th, there will be a holiday in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh for Milad-un-Nabi/First Onam. On August 26, banks will remain closed in several states including Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Kerala due to Eid-e-Milad/Thiruvonam. On Friday, August 28, banks will be closed in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim, and Kerala on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. August 30 will be a weekly holiday, being a Sunday.

Services available even on holidays

Customers will continue to have access to online banking facilities even on bank holidays. Services such as online banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs, and net banking will operate as usual. Customers can avail themselves of these services to transfer money, pay bills, and utilise other digital banking features.
