New Delhi: The monsoon is currently at its peak, with torrential rains bringing life to a standstill in many areas. While Delhi-NCR and Western UP have seen some respite from the rain, water levels in local rivers remain high due to rainfall in the mountains. The water levels of the Ganga, Yamuna, Ramganga, and Kosi rivers have risen significantly.
Heavy rainfall continues across various parts of the northeastern states. Persistent rain is causing rockfalls in the mountains, leading to the disruption of several routes. Landslides triggered by rain in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kashmir have disrupted traffic. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate again in the coming hours; the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for torrential rain across 15 states.
Heavy Rain Warning for 15 States
The IMD has issued a heavy rain warning for August 1, covering various areas in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab. Alerts for heavy rainfall have also been issued for Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Jharkhand. Additionally, alerts for heavy rain and storms have been issued for West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat. Strong winds reaching speeds of 75 km/h are expected during this period.
Weather Outlook for Delhi
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for strong winds and rain in the capital, Delhi, extending into the late evening of August 1. Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 50 km/h. The maximum temperature in Delhi is forecast to reach 34°C, with a minimum of 28°C.
Weather in UP
The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain warnings for several districts in Uttar Pradesh. According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Moradabad, and Kanpur. Apart from these areas, rainfall is also likely in Rampur, Mainpuri, Lalitpur, Sitapur, Bahraich, Kannauj, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Kushinagar. In the capital, Lucknow, the maximum temperature today, August,1 is expected to reach 33°C, while the minimum may settle at 28°C.
Rain Alert for Bihar
The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, and Madhepura in Bihar. Additionally, rainfall is predicted for Purnia, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Supaul, Madhepura, and Banka. A heavy rain alert has also been issued for Munger and Jamui, where stormy winds reaching speeds of 70 km/h are expected.
People have been urged to exercise caution due to the likelihood of lightning strikes. Additionally, a heavy rain alert has been issued for various parts of Jharkhand, with warnings of thunderstorms and squalls.
