New Delhi: The Killam area of Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, was shaken when terrorists opened fire, targeting two non-Kashmiri individuals. One person died in the attack, while the other sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment. Both individuals had come to Kulgam from outside the region to work as labourers.
The terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed responsibility for the attack. Following the incident, the administration has gone into high alert. State police and paramilitary forces have set up checkpoints across the area to search commuters and monitor all movements. Security forces are conducting search operations to track down the terrorists. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condemned this brutal attack.

Manoj Sinha Condemns the Attack
After the terrorists attacked the labourers, security forces cordoned off the area. Police maintained a vigil on the roads of Kulgam throughout the night, keeping a close watch on the movement of people. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the terror attack and directed security forces to intensify search operations.
Taking to the social media platform ‘X’, Manoj Sinha wrote that a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed in the barbaric terror attack in Kulgam. He further stated, “I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed the security forces to intensify their operations and eliminate the terrorists.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Lieutenant Governor stated that another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment. He expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He added that in this hour of grief, the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the entire nation stand with the victims.
Security Forces Conduct Search Operation in the Area
The terrorists carried out this incident at a time when security forces had recovered a large quantity of ammunition during a search operation on Wednesday. A joint operation was conducted by Kulgam Police, the 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the 18th Battalion of the CRPF in the orchards of Tantripora-Sursanu. The police stated that the recovery of these weapons and ammunition had thwarted a terrorist plot to disrupt peace in the area.

Earlier, on July 30, security forces had foiled a terrorist plot and busted a hideout in the forests of Rajouri during a search operation. Rations and cooking utensils were also recovered from the site. This success was achieved during a search operation conducted jointly by the Army and the state police.
Large-Scale Search Operation Underway
It is worth noting that while some pro-Pakistan terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir persist in their cowardly acts, the Indian Army has consistently thwarted their plans. A large-scale search operation is currently underway in the mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir, given the suspicion that terrorists may be hiding there. Just a few days ago, security forces discovered a hideout in a remote area, where ready-to-use IEDs, clothing, and food supplies were recovered.
