New Delhi: Following the resignation of Union Agriculture Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, students protesting under the banner of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ have returned home. Delhi’s Jantar Mantar grounds are now empty. Meanwhile, opposition political parties are fiercely targeting the government. The Congress has questioned Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the police lathi-charge on students that took place on July 20.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In the letter, Rahul Gandhi alleged that security forces used indiscriminate force against students who were protesting peacefully and asserted that accountability for the entire incident must be fixed. He urged the government to ensure accountability.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that while students were demanding a fair and accountable education system, the government,t instead of listening to their demands,ands allegedly used lethal weapons and tear gas against them. Rahul Gandhi claimed that hundreds of students were injured in this action and that female protesters were also allegedly mistreated.
Questions raised over the use of pellet guns
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha also questioned the use of pellet guns. In his letter, he noted that videos surfacing on media and social media point to severe injuries. Citing the case of 19-year-old student Sahil Lochab, he mentioned that the student is critically injured and at risk of losing sight in one eye. He cornered the government while highlighting the condition of the injured student.
Rahul asks the Home Minister two crucial questions
Raebareli MP Rahul Gandhi directly asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah two questions. The first was: Did he authorise the use of lethal force, including pellet guns, against the students? If not, who granted the permission? A second question was raised regarding whether the individuals seen beating students with batons while in plainclothes during the protest were police personnel or volunteers, and on whose orders they had been deployed.
In the concluding part of the letter, Rahul Gandhi emphasised that peaceful protest must be respected in any democracy. He noted that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety of protesters and address their grievances through dialogue. He further stated that such violence runs counter to democratic values and has sparked outrage across the country.
Opposition political parties may create an uproar in Parliament on Monday over the Delhi Police’s actions. The opposition has not allowed parliamentary proceedings to function since July 20. They have been consistently aggressive regarding the student protests.
