New Delhi: The student protest led by the CJP at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which had been ongoing for about 36 days, has now ended. The protesting students had put forward three demands regarding the NEET paper leak, including the resignation of the Education Minister. The government has accepted all three demands. On Saturday afternoon, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post. An agreement was also reached on the remaining two demands.
The ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) has now announced the end of the sit-in at Jantar Mantar. Viewing the government’s decision as a victory, the students decided to call off the protest. All agitating students have now been asked to return home. The CJP had previously announced a ‘Parliament March’ for July 20, 2026, during which many students sustained injuries due to a police lathi-charge.
Consensus Reached in Third Round of Talks
CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were leading the protest, held a meeting with the government at the Constitution Club. Union Ministers JP Nadda and Dr Jitendra Singh represented the government. Subsequently, in a joint press conference, it was stated that there were three key demands before the start of the movement. The first demand was for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which the government accepted. They added, “Dharmendra Pradhan ji resigned a short while ago today. CJP spokespersons stated that our first demand has been met.”
Saurav Das stated that the second demand was to withdraw all FIRs registered against the protesters. He informed that the government has agreed to this demand as well. All FIRs filed against student protesters in states governed by the BJP or its allies will be withdrawn, and no punitive action will be taken against them in the future.
Additionally, they stated that no action would be taken against members of the Cockroach Janata Party team either. Ashutosh Ranka mentioned that the government would provide its guarantee in writing by Tuesday. Announcement to Call Off the Protest
Ashutosh Ranka stated that the central government has formally accepted all their key demands; therefore, they are announcing the withdrawal of their protest. Union Minister JP Nadda mentioned that the protesters had submitted a four-point written draft to the government.
Sonam Wangchuk Hails Resignation as a Victory for Democracy
Educationist and social activist Sonam Wangchuk had undertaken a fast-unto-death at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Following the Union Education Minister’s resignation, Wangchuk has issued a significant statement, describing the development as a victory for democracy. In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, he wrote, “This is a victory for democracy! Direct democracy… from the streets. It is a victory of peace, patience, and perseverance.”
