New Delhi: The national capital, Delhi, is currently facing disruptions due to a protest led by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP). The student-led agitation continues, with no immediate resolution in sight. In view of the rising number of protesters and security concerns, it has been announced that certain metro stations will remain closed on Saturday as well.
Eighteen metro stations will remain completely closed today. Commuters will need to use alternative modes of transport for their journeys. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stated that the stations would remain shut from 7:30 AM on Saturday, July 25, until further notice. Interchange facilities will remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat metro stations.
Which 18 metro stations will remain closed?
According to the DMRC, 18 metro stations in the capital will be closed on Saturday. These include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan, and New Delhi metro stations.
Delhi Metro shared this information via a post on the social media platform ‘X’. Traffic on several major routes in Delhi has been affected over the past few days due to the CJP protest. A day earlier, on Friday, 17 metro stations were closed, causing inconvenience to commuters. According to passengers, their journeys took 40 to 45 minutes longer than usual.
CJP may stage another ‘Parliament March’
According to sources, if the CJP fails to resolve the issue with the government, a ‘Parliament March Part-2’ could be announced. Should this happen, a large number of protesting students are expected to arrive in Delhi once again. All eyes in political and administrative circles are fixed on Jantar Mantar. In anticipation of any potential situation, the Delhi Police has tightened security arrangements at Jantar Mantar and the surrounding areas. Additional police forces have been deployed to prevent any disorder.
Major Decision by the Union Cabinet
The central government has taken concrete steps to curb paper leaks across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has announced the establishment of fast-track courts. On Friday, the Union Cabinet approved introducing a bill in Parliament to enact a stringent law against paper leaks.
The central government is likely to table this bill in Parliament on Monday. The bill includes provisions for up to 10 years of imprisonment and fines of up to ₹10 crore for cases involving paper leaks. Incidents involving protesters injured during the demonstration on July 20 also continue to be a subject of discussion.
