New Delhi: Instability has once again surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir. Security alerts have been heightened following a terror attack in the region, with close surveillance being maintained on all major activities. The administration has adopted a stern stance following the killing of a Head Constable from the 3rd Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Search operations are underway across the area. Meanwhile, taking significant action, the state police have detained approximately 2,500 youths in Kashmir so far. The administration’s search operations continue, and the case is likely to be solved soon.
High Alert Issued in Kashmir
Security in Kashmir has been placed on high alert following the killing of the policeman. The security alert level was raised after the terror attack, in which a policeman was targeted and killed in a crowded market. A spokesperson for the CRPF Srinagar Sector stated that security across Kashmir has been heightened following the terror attack in Anantnag.
Paramilitary forces, alongside the police, were seen conducting search operations on the streets. The spokesperson added that the search operations were initiated to maintain law and order in the area; checkpoints have been reinforced, and search drives have been launched. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces.
Homes of Two Terrorists Demolished
On Wednesday night, security forces took stern action against terrorists in Anantnag, South Kashmir, during a search operation. The homes of two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were completely demolished. These homes belonged to Adil Thokar in Guri, Anantnag, and Haroon Rashid Ganai in Bijbehara. Both terrorists had been active in Kashmir for a considerable time.
According to reports, ‘The Resistance Front’—an affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba—has claimed responsibility for the attack. Before this, a massive crackdown had been launched against ‘Overground Workers’ (OGWs) in the Valley. According to officials, more than 1,000 people were detained for questioning shortly after the attack; this figure has since risen to over 2,500. The administration appears highly proactive in its efforts to apprehend the terrorists.
Killing of a Constable During the Amarnath Yatra
Head Constable Qureshi had been performing duty for the Amarnath Yatra along the route to the cave shrine in the Himalayas for several days. CCTV footage shows a terrorist approaching the constable at close range and opening fire. The terrorist is seen wearing a black cap in the visuals.
An individual was also spotted carrying a sack, presumably to conceal the assault rifle used in this brutal attack. In response, the police have appealed to the public not to circulate the video and have issued a warning regarding strict legal action against those who violate this directive.
