New Delhi: The protest by the CJP (Cockroach Janata Party) regarding their demands is still ongoing at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. A large number of protesters are arriving to participate, keeping the situation tense. While it was anticipated that the agitation would end after the ‘Parliament March’ on June 20, it has instead gained further momentum.
In view of the CJP protest and security concerns, a decision has been made to keep 16 metro stations in Delhi closed. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued an advisory regarding this on Wednesday. According to the DMRC, these stations will remain closed to passengers from 7:30 AM until further orders.
Commuters will now have to rely on alternative modes of transport. Interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat stations will remain operational as usual; passengers will be able to switch trains at these stations but will not be permitted to enter or exit the station premises.
Closure of 16 Metro Stations
According to the DMRC, 16 metro stations have been closed due to the escalating CJP protest. The affected stations include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium.
Passengers will not be able to enter or exit these stations, as their gates have been completely shut. The Delhi Metro has urged passengers to check route details before starting their journey and to consider alternative routes. Meanwhile, the police have set up barricades in several areas due to the CJP protest and security arrangements around the Parliament House.
CJP Protesters Spotted at Metro Stations
Large numbers of CJP protesters were seen at metro stations, disrupting metro services. Security agencies have also increased their deployment in sensitive areas. Special arrangements have been made to manage the crowds.
The DMRC stated that the situation is being continuously monitored, and future decisions will be taken based on directives from security agencies. Commuters have also been urged to keep an eye on the official DMRC website for updates.
Traffic in the capital likely to remain affected today as well
Traffic in Delhi is expected to remain disrupted today due to the ‘Cockroach Janta’ protest. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued guidelines regarding this and has appealed to the public to travel only if necessary.
Commuters heading towards the airport, railway stations, and surrounding areas are advised to leave home well in advance. They have also been asked to follow the instructions of traffic police personnel and to use only designated parking areas, avoiding roadside parking.
