New Delhi: Rainfall in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand has brought relief to residents from the scorching heat. Rain is occurring across various other states in the country as well; overall, the monsoon is now fully active. Parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand have received rainfall, leading to waterlogging in several areas.
Heavy afternoon rainfall in many areas of the northeastern states has caused temperatures to drop. Heavy rain is also lashing the southern states. Weather conditions are expected to remain inclement over the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is likely in 16 states. Authorities have urged people to exercise caution due to the possibility of lightning strikes in several areas.
Heavy rainfall expected in several states
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. There is a likelihood of lightning strikes alongside thunder in these regions. Additionally, heavy rain warnings have been issued for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
Alerts for heavy rainfall have also been issued for 16 states, including Odisha, Assam, and Maharashtra. The IMD indicates that the next 24 hours could prove challenging for several states.
Heavy rain warning for Himachal Pradesh
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for several areas of Himachal Pradesh. According to the IMD, alerts for extremely heavy rainfall have been issued for multiple districts in the state. There is an expectation of flash floods and landslides disrupting road connectivity in hilly areas.
The administration has been placed on high alert, and people have been urged to avoid non-essential travel. Heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand, with a risk of landslides and rockfalls in the hilly regions.
Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR
Overcast skies are expected throughout the day on Wednesday in the national capital, New Delhi, and the adjoining NCR regions. Strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in the area. Rainfall may well bring relief from the heat and humidity. However, issues such as waterlogging, traffic jams, and inundation in low-lying areas of the capital could arise. Office-goers are advised to set out with extra time to spare.
Rainfall across Uttar Pradesh: From West to East
Heavy rain is likely in Western Uttar Pradesh, specifically in Meerut, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Noida, and surrounding areas; heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for some locations. A warning has also been issued regarding heightened monsoon activity in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ballia, and Ayodhya. Additionally, warnings for heavy rain have been issued for the Prayagraj and Basti divisions. There is also a likelihood of lightning strikes. The rainfall is causing water levels in rivers and ponds to rise.
