New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently visiting Australia, where he has made a major announcement. A significant decision has been taken to boost sports cooperation between the two nations. The opening match of Australia’s famous T20 tournament, the Big Bash League, scheduled for December, will be played at the stadium in Chennai, India.
This marks the first time in history that a tournament from another country will kick off in India. This agreement signals strong coordination between Australia and India. The event will be a highlight of the week-long ‘G’Day Namaste’ festival, which is set to take place across India in December. The festival will showcase a range of programs on Australian culture, business, and sports, serving as a major attraction for the public.

Strengthening Sports Cooperation Between India and Australia
During his visit to Australia on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the world’s most historic cricket venues. He was accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and former Australian men’s cricket team captain Steve Waugh. The meeting was highly significant for both nations, leading to a historic decision to enhance sports cooperation.

He further noted that today, there is no pressure of a last-over finish; instead, there is only the joy of the sport, the warmth of friendship, and the energy of future champions. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi, together with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, launched the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap. He further stated that under this initiative, efforts would be made to strengthen cooperation not only in cricket but also in other sports. Expressing his delight, Modi remarked that sports serve as a strong bond in the relationship between India and Australia, noting that the partnership would be strengthened both on and off the field.
