New Delhi: The arrival of the monsoon has brought chaos, bringing life across North India to a virtual standstill. Roads have turned into rivers, and vast stretches of forest land are submerged in water. From Delhi to Gujarat, the rains have been relentless. Heavy rainfall has also wreaked havoc across various parts of Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to the disruption of daily life, 19 people have lost their lives so far. Heavy rains in parts of the capital (Delhi), Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad created potholes on the roads, trapping vehicles. In Noida, water levels rose to two feet, making travel extremely difficult for commuters.

There is no immediate respite from the rain in North India. The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall warnings for 17 states. You can find detailed weather forecasts for specific regions below.

Heavy Rain Warning for Uttar Pradesh

According to the IMD, a heavy rain alert has been issued for over 60 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, for the next two days. Warnings regarding lightning strikes have also been issued. Meanwhile, heavy rains that began early Thursday morning exposed the inadequacy of drainage systems in the Delhi-NCR region.

People faced significant difficulties due to massive waterlogging on the roads. Autos, taxis, cars, and other vehicles were seen crawling through the NCR. Some vehicles stalled due to the deep water and had to be pushed to the roadside. There is no relief from the rain in the immediate future; heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect for several districts in Uttar Pradesh. People have been advised to exercise caution due to the risk of lightning strikes.

Rain wreaks havoc in Surat; 9 Dead.

Continuous rainfall has disrupted normal life in Gujarat and Maharashtra, creating a critical situation. Nine people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Surat, Gujarat. Amidst flood-like conditions, approximately 3,900 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas to safer locations.

River Water Levels Rise

Heavy rainfall across North India has led to a rise in river water levels. Water levels in rivers such as the Yamuna, Ganga, Kosi, and Ramganga have increased significantly. The spell of rain is expected to continue in North India for the next four days.

Rainfall Warnings for These States

The Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall warnings for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Delhi. Alerts have also been issued for Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Rainfall alerts are in place for the northeastern states of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, as well as for Puducherry. Additionally, heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for various parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
