New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently presented a major gift to Rajasthan. During his visit to the state, he inaugurated a new airport terminal in Jodhpur and the Pachpadra Refinery, developed at a cost of approximately ₹79,459 crore. This move by the government is seen as a significant step towards developing a petrochemical zone linked to the refinery.
Additionally, plans are in place to establish a plastics industry based on the refinery’s by-products. It is worth noting that the new airport terminal was constructed at a cost of around ₹480 crore under the ‘Udan’ scheme. This blend of Marwar’s rich heritage and modern infrastructure will offer enhanced facilities to tourists visiting from within the country and abroad.

Key facts about the Pachpadra Refinery
Did you know that the Pachpadra Refinery, built at a cost of approximately ₹79,459 crore, ranks among the country’s largest industrial projects? For this construction work, 1.5 crore cubic meters of earth were excavated, an amount equivalent to filling roughly 15,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
According to a government report, this volume of excavation is about six times greater than the material moved during the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. Below are some key highlights from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech.

Modi states that the refinery will generate employment for the people
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made several significant points in his speech. He remarked that the soil of Rajasthan has taught us the value of self-respect in every grain. He stated that today stands as proof that BJP governments do not leave projects unfinished after laying the foundation stone; instead, they work hard to bring them to completion.
Overcoming past setbacks to complete this project is a major achievement. He emphasised that ‘New India’ does not back away from the pledges it makes, nor does it slow down its journey of development.
Terminal to Accelerate Marwar’s Development
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Jodhpur’s new airport terminal has become a major topic of discussion on social media. He remarked that this terminal would give fresh momentum to the development of the Marwar region. Furthermore, he mentioned that large-scale measures would be taken to address the water crisis in the Shekhawati region. During the event, appointment letters for government jobs were also distributed to 54,000 youths from Rajasthan.
