Teachers’ Day 2025

India observes Teacher’s Day on September 5 of each year to recognize the contribution educators make to forming society and educating the next generation. The day honors the second president of India, renowned philosopher, and educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary.

Throughout the nation, schools and institutions commemorate the day by having students and teachers switch positions. Senior students frequently dress like teachers, assume the role of teachers, and educate younger. In addition, cultural events, speeches, and gatherings are planned to emphasize the value of education. In certain educational institutions, instructors take on the role of students themselves, signifying the two parties’ shared commitment to learning.

Why is Teacher’s Day observed?

The purpose of Teacher’s Day is to recognize the role that educators play in educating children and helping them develop moral principles. It gives pupils a chance to thank their professors for everything. After Dr. Radhakrishnan requested that his birthday be commemorated as a day honoring teachers rather than as a personal celebration, the Government of India established Teachers’ Day in 1962, starting the tradition.
