In a landmark decision aimed at empowering women and reducing poverty, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to launch a new financial assistance scheme that will provide Rs 2,500 per month to economically disadvantaged women in the national capital. The initiative, expected to roll out in the coming weeks, has been designed to offer much-needed support to women from low income households.

The scheme, which is currently in its final stages of planning, will benefit women who fall under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, widows, single mothers, and those who are unemployed or without stable income sources. According to officials, the funds will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure transparency and efficiency.
About The Policy
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the policy reflects her administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and gender equality. This is more than just financial support, it’s an investment in the dignity, independence, and empowerment of our women. We want to make sure that no woman in Delhi has to struggle for her basic needs.
The Delhi government is collaborating with the Social Welfare Department and local NGOs to identify and verify eligible recipients. A dedicated portal will also be launched where women can apply for the scheme, upload necessary documents, and track their application status.

This announcement has drawn both praise and scrutiny from political observers. Supporters applaud it as a progressive step towards women’s welfare, while critics question the long-term fiscal sustainability of such a program. In response, the government has assured that the funding will be allocated from the state’s existing welfare budget, with provisions for audits to maintain accountability.

Benefits For Women
Women’s rights groups have largely welcomed the move, saying it could improve household security and give women more control over their lives. When a woman has even a small financial cushion, it creates a ripple effect on education, health, and overall family well being, said Shalini Kumari, a social activist working in East Delhi.
If implemented successfully, this scheme may become a model for other states looking to support women in vulnerable communities. The Chief Minister has promised periodic reviews and adjustments to ensure the program meets its objectives effectively.
The launch date and registration details are expected to be announced officially in the coming days. For thousands of women in Delhi, this move could mark a turning point towards financial independence and social upliftment.
